The Pinnacle and Pants d’jour

Firstly, I want to send out into the land of blogosphere Lovelies, an enormous thank you to Saray, Fashion Dreamer, and Sera-louise for thoughtfully tagging me.
Cyber hugs all around!
In other world news, while sipping coffee over my usual laptop garnish, I was contacted by the Editor of Writer’s Digest. A paragraph of black letters and a millisecond later, I was a finalist in the 77th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. A week later, still unsure of my respective category, the certificate finally arrived… and as if by some serendipitous act from the writing otherworld, I’d been one of the lucky chosen (from more than 17000 entries) to receive an Honorable Mention in the Children’s/Young Adult Fiction category!

It doesn’t take much to make me happy, but in these moments of near psychotic jubilation… my only recourse is to instigate something I like to call, Shopper’s Delight. And while the blustering winds and semi-damp weather strong-willed this outfit, I felt an obligatory need to tout my skinny jeans… my pants d’jour.

Alongside this flannel little number, let’s be honest, these hybrid heels with their ridiculously vertical 6-inch vaults, of course made my prophecies of vertigo much easier to achieve.

Heels, Zinc. Blazer, vintage. Cuffed skinnies, Guess.

The Writing Wall

Affronted by a (practically) nonexistent warning sign, the weather-beaten plastic dangling idly from a nearby telephone pole, clearly stated, Private Property . Even though our previous attempt at this location resulted in a prying patrol car… the graffiti mural, a derelict carcass of a once prominent amusement park, was obviously too wicked to pass blindly. Sprinting around with certain schoolgirl giddiness, the ridiculous amount of camerawhoring was starting to feel like some new Olympic sport. But before finally fleeing the scene, we noticed the black and red letters smeared across the far right side of the building that perhaps claimed an excuse to previous visitors. ' The Devil Made Me Do It' . Disturbing to small degrees, it did seem outwardly apropos to our deviant trespassing acquisition… our forbidden spray paint entertainment. (Vintage sequin butterfly shirt, Betsey Johnson tights, F21 skirt & jacket, Bakers fringe boots)

Gunmetal Laces

The hillside was far more treacherous than it actually appeared, and even though I didn’t foresee clambering up and down the jagged terrain… my 8-year-old nephew (among others in our brood) got a real kick out of thinking I was some sort of neophyte Pink Power Ranger. Pity I left my blade blaster, metallic armor, and spandex suit at home. Not sure about spandex, but if you and all your friends want to start your own gang of crime fighting superheros, you'll need some matching outfits... something stylish of course.  (RTBU sweater, Topshop skirt and Emma Cook boots)

The Carousel Ride

A little storytelling... A modicum of silence swallowed the room as dusty shards of sunlight patterned the multicolored carpet. Decorated with an army of garish jewelry, everything jingles, almost intentionally, as the woman perched behind the large candy counter brushes invisible lint from her blouse. Her silvery hair is the color of cotton candy. She offers a genuine smile before shifting her gaze downcast towards her slender hands. Briefly, she examines their delicate surface that is creviced by time and wiser than yesterday. At four quarters per ride, it was a small price for six minutes of uncontaminated childhood reminiscence to sweep the memory warehouse. And while we kept the company of an epoch 1920’s carousel, 60 handcrafted horses, and funky reindeer, we went round and round, faster and faster… letting it take us to those secret places we almost forgot existed. --Bella H. p.s. In lieu of those who have so thoughtfully given me awards and spotlight features... YOU'RE AM
