Running with Tinsel

Yes, we're merrymakers in masks and sparkly frocks...

Thoughts of Christmas scribble the page like a creative resurrection, but with all this metaphoric graffiti spattering the paper, I still found time to bathe in that ever-prevailing yuletide euphoria. Cookie-cutter homes stood vanguard, bejeweled with twinkling lights and shimmering snowmen… obviously Saint Nick’s navigational route to every fireside in suburbia. And while the December wind and holiday spirit seemed to blow past us, through us, and all around, we hoisted the anchor of expectancy.

Celebrating the entrance of yet another year, the artificial Christmas tree now appears a depressing carcass of orphaned tinsel and prehistoric ornaments. But my mind marvels a series of Machiavellian tactics, as contractual obligations of our disheveled shopping bags lends reminder to the rest of the afternoon’s binge retail-activity. This is of course, a fleeting sterilization for those painstaking holiday blue periods.

Recap of Momentous Events:
The Santa surge shaped a wealth of wish list goodliness, Turkey Battlestar Galactica, jollity galore, hot chocolate by the quart, two French films, a retched crescendo otherwise known as amateur caroling, 3 wrapping paper blunders (thanks to my bolshie Chihuahuas), sexy mistletoe kissing, a topsy-turvy Christmas tree, a rather undisciplined old-school dance-off, Grey Goose, and a partridge in a shoe tree.

Special thanks go out to Nature Grafitti and Dream and fantasy for surprising me with such lovely Christmas cards…. and BIG cyber-hugs to Learn How To Fly (for the Rose Award), LE FLASSH, STELLAWANTSTODIE, This Organized Chaos, and releasing the tension for so thoughtfully tagging me. xxx

these pics make me miss Christmas so bad! dressing up, the decorated tree, presents all wrapped underneath. You said it right about the tree now looking like a carcass! Ours seems much sadder now that the presents that once made it richer, have been unwrapped.

The Carousel Ride

A little storytelling... A modicum of silence swallowed the room as dusty shards of sunlight patterned the multicolored carpet. Decorated with an army of garish jewelry, everything jingles, almost intentionally, as the woman perched behind the large candy counter brushes invisible lint from her blouse. Her silvery hair is the color of cotton candy. She offers a genuine smile before shifting her gaze downcast towards her slender hands. Briefly, she examines their delicate surface that is creviced by time and wiser than yesterday. At four quarters per ride, it was a small price for six minutes of uncontaminated childhood reminiscence to sweep the memory warehouse. And while we kept the company of an epoch 1920’s carousel, 60 handcrafted horses, and funky reindeer, we went round and round, faster and faster… letting it take us to those secret places we almost forgot existed. --Bella H. p.s. In lieu of those who have so thoughtfully given me awards and spotlight features... YOU'RE AM

Gunmetal Laces

The hillside was far more treacherous than it actually appeared, and even though I didn’t foresee clambering up and down the jagged terrain… my 8-year-old nephew (among others in our brood) got a real kick out of thinking I was some sort of neophyte Pink Power Ranger. Pity I left my blade blaster, metallic armor, and spandex suit at home. Not sure about spandex, but if you and all your friends want to start your own gang of crime fighting superheros, you'll need some matching outfits... something stylish of course.  (RTBU sweater, Topshop skirt and Emma Cook boots)

Around the Museum

Adept to artistic recreation, I wrenched this blue button-down from the retirement section of my closet… evidently, I’ve been on some sort of 007 sewing safari. Sated with a neo-trashy romanticism, its charming DIY imperfection materialized this impromptu photo excursion, even though I should have been working. But from the sun-drenched corners of a museum shop, I rubbed out the shadows of a recent stress purgatory, as the city voice seemed a tangible reawakening. Shirt, DIY (Meadham Kirchhoff inspiration). Satin tap pants, Victoria’s Secret. Bangles, vintage. Heels, N.Y.L.A.
