Vintage Lollipops

As a woman of esteemed Cherokee ancestry, I've wanted to express and create a more spiritual atmosphere to my art for a long time. One that specifically depicts my bloodline... the strength, courage and exemplary virtues of some of the women I've been fortunate enough to know in my life. “The Cherokees did not separate spiritual and physical realms but regarded them as one, and they practiced their religion in a host of private daily observances as well as in public ceremonies.”

First look at my new piece, 'Moonlight & Shadow' for 'Empathetic' at Alexi Era Gallery & Publishing in partnership with The You Rock Foundation , opening March 5th. This exhibition is very close to my heart as it helps to bring awareness and sincere understanding to the intense and often painful affliction of mental health disorders.

Hustle: so many things happening in the studio. 

After 20 or so layers, I feel like this is finally coming together! 

In progress- underpainting. For years, I've had a collection of my grandmother's remaining art supplies. Stacks of canvas sheets, parchments, and yellow-tinged paper sit in my studio in a large black portfolio case... an unwavering reminder of her incredible artistic ability. Deciding to venture back into oil painting, I also decided to use some of her canvas sheets. I love the specks of paint and tiny tears at the corners that make me feel in some strange, nostalgic way that I'm fusing our work.

  Finishing details on my piece for 'Interiors', a Copycat Violence group show Nov. 14th at Gristle Gallery-  sponsored by Trekell Art  Supplies! So grateful.  And immediately starting another new oil painting.

I'm a bit out of practice with oil... all the more reason to keep at it! 

New oil painting in progress.  I'm so heartbroken over the loss of my precious Meemerz kitty. Five months without her feels like an eternity. I miss you so much, baby girl. A bee to its blossom.
