Bottled Wildflowers

Decorating my art studio with a myriad of hunted treasures is something I never get tired of doing. Old bottles, new bottles, broken doll parts, butterfly wings, and dried flowers from the garden seem to be staples on the nearby wooden shelves that embrace my painted canvases, as well as those yearning for attention. One foot in an antique store, or even browsing the internet, and I know there's trouble at the forefront... I always find something I feel I can't live without, something that can't live without a spot on my shelves. With a natural, slightly rustic, aesthetic, transforming wine bottles (and other things, like old shoes) into vases is another favorite, so when I spotted this beautiful 2010 Belair-Monange St. Emilion from JJ Buckley , I knew all it needed was a handful of wildflowers.

Pyramids in Place

Studio shelfie.

Studio Happenings

Practically a rare phenomenon in my art studio, here's a look at what's happening. Honestly, as eager as I am to become better skilled at photography, and then snap everything in sight, actually taking time to photograph my artwork is one of my few areas of procrastination, oddly enough. Sometimes I just prefer moving ahead to the next project, but what must be done eventually might as well be done today.

Birthday

Starting my birthday in a quiet studio filled with succulents while my little girls, Tink & Jilly nestle at my feet. I'm not sure what the rest of the day has to offer, but I know it involves an Insanity workout and a delicious pineapple chicken recipe that I'll be preparing for everyone tonight!

Cast Iron & Textiles

I recently acquired a cast iron skillet (a longtime wish list item), and being the novice cook that I am, must now compartmentalize all the do's and don'ts of properly seasoning it. So, hello Friday morning... here's to airing beautiful textiles and preparing cookware. Also, there will be several hours spent in the studio and maybe even some lemon poppy seed muffins on the list of the day.  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Upcycled Vintage Typewriter Table Project

My feelings on the self-proclaimed "project" of taking something old and imagining the possibilities of something new without obliterating the lives it has lived, haven't changed much over the years. Vanishing into antique shops and breathing dust for a couple hours calms me while the notion of salvaging with the seer's eye, even if it means using a little elbow grease, excites that secret spot deep within. But it's only recently that I've decided to act on said chronic impulses.  Sometimes I just want to know what I'm capable of doing because it's important to create an interesting space you want to live in and not simply live in a space in which you have no interest.  Wild-eyed and no stranger to home renovation, our overly discussed home to-do list usually results in a task that's hard to swallow but not far-fetched enough to prevent doing. Like the gym. Oh, and the recording studio for Alex. But apparently, the smaller things that both...

Corners of Heart & Home

I'm always excited to glance around our house and see that we're making it a home. It instills a deeply heartfelt level of gratifying inspiration and I'm so proud of what we've accomplished... while still looking ahead to all that we hope to bring about. With that said, here are just a few of the wonderful things I spotted that put a smile on my face. Including a very enthusiastic Tinkie "Give me snacks!" face (second image) and a stunning original Andrew Loomis painting (last image) that recently came into our possession.

Studio Life

There's a kitty perched languorously on the edge of my desk, velvet paws stacked one on top of the other with relaxed indifference. Her rhythmic purring intermingles with the drone and patter of my computer and keyboard creating a melodic song as slow moving shadows etch across the floor on this peaceful Sunday morning. What a wonderful start to the day.
