After 20 or so layers, I feel like this is finally coming together! 

In progress- underpainting. For years, I've had a collection of my grandmother's remaining art supplies. Stacks of canvas sheets, parchments, and yellow-tinged paper sit in my studio in a large black portfolio case... an unwavering reminder of her incredible artistic ability. Deciding to venture back into oil painting, I also decided to use some of her canvas sheets. I love the specks of paint and tiny tears at the corners that make me feel in some strange, nostalgic way that I'm fusing our work.

  Finishing details on my piece for 'Interiors', a Copycat Violence group show Nov. 14th at Gristle Gallery-  sponsored by Trekell Art  Supplies! So grateful.  And immediately starting another new oil painting. 

I'm a bit out of practice with oil... all the more reason to keep at it! 

New oil painting in progress.  I'm so heartbroken over the loss of my precious Meemerz kitty. Five months without her feels like an eternity. I miss you so much, baby girl. A bee to its blossom. (Palette knife only- from start to finish)  This was my very first attempt with palette knife painting, and it was incredibly challenging.  There were tears, anxiety, and moments when I wanted to trash the entire project, but I didn't quit and stuck  with it until the end knowing I'd benefit from the experience. Phew, I did it!   

(Palette knife only- In progress shot)  This is the FIRST time I've ever painted with a palette knife.  It's been challenging, nerve-racking, and I've wanted to punch through the canvas a few times already...but it's also been an incredible learning experience. More to come.

Nearly abandoned two years ago, it's taken countless hours of awkward and uncomfortable positioning on studio floors, Twister-like stretching and several long days with even longer nights, but a few months ago I finally finished my 4-ft x 5-ft wood panel Ghostship Mermaid mural that I first started in 2011. A triumphant victory dance later ensued. This painting ( seen here ) was one of my first attempts with oil and well, one of my first attempts with regard to art in any capacity. When I sat down to simply "finish wood carving the scales" it quickly evolved into a daunting yet rewarding progression of the entire piece... and I couldn't be happier with the result.  

Sorta getting into the pre-Halloween groove and went Bride of Frankenstein meets afro-chic. And let's face it, it's nice having beautiful friends to fill you with inspiration... for example, V and Aly , two stunners who sat front row in my mind during this 5-hour oil on canvas study I did earlier this week.  Buy this uniquely original painting here !!!  Be sure to check out Frankie's cover girl debut for the 24 Blogazine October Anniversary Issue and website relaunch!!

I've been strictly dedicated to watercolors for the last couple of months that I decided it was time to pause briefly and utilize the stack of messy oil paints taking up residence in the studio. That being said, here's a stage-by-stage progression of the painting I've been eating and breathing over the past three days.
