If we lived inside a snow globe: blizzard '11 photo diary

The St. Louis metropolitan area has experienced some of the most talked about weather since the blizzard in 1982. But I'm reminded that one of the funniest memories of this winter snowstorm inevitably comes from seeing me Carrie Bradshaw-gallivant in vintage fur and pajama pants through sleet and snow trying to capture every whimsical moment. In fact, the quote of the night was, "Kinda looks like we're vacationing in Narnia." And it really did.
Watching the steady snowfall seemed to play homage to every Norman Rockwell painting I'd ever seen and the entire thing was starting to feel as if I lived inside a snow globe. It wasn't long until Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency and subsequently activated the Missouri National Guard in preparation of this severe weather. While we were fortunate enough to bypass the remarkable 22" snow approximates, we did, however, see towering snowdrifts, several inches of layered ice, and wind gust so commanding that I'll end up driving to The Home Depot to buy a new mailbox... since mine is now lounging in the frozen driveway.

The Body

You can barely see it in the last post , so here's a clearer picture of   what I've been working on in my new art studio... not that it hasn't come with little stop your heart stress moments.   The first time I attempted this piece, now referred to as The Body , was mutually as terrifying as it was exhilarating. It was the first full hand drawing I'd ever attempted, and everything was going smoothly until the moment I decided to incorporate oil paint, also the first in my artwork experiences. My grandmother was an award-winning artist, but now, without her wealth of knowledge and go-to advise, this is really a learning/teach yourself process. The drawing was done and exactly how I wanted it, the hair and tights were painted, and the final stages involved adding skin and the completion of the tattoos.   I didn't go in naively, I understood that it would inevitably boil down to the dynamics of trial and error, so I inhaled deeply and began creating my palette. Jeffrey Campbell x Solestruck Box It Up

I bet many of you heard about (or even entered) the Jeffrey Campbell x Solestruck Box It Up challenge that took place last month that's giving one lucky person the opportunity to score $1000 worth of JC shoes and be the inspiration for the next shoebox design. And while I think they're still in the process of narrowing down three top finalists to display via their Facebook page for voters to decide the grand winner, I thought I'd take a second and share my entry with you! About my design: When I first learned of the challenge via e-mail, I got super excited at the prospect of designing and illustrating something that would appeal to the masses amongst our little shoe-obsessed demographic. I get asked a lot of interesting questions regarding my own shoe collection, so I spent the afternoon rummaging through the multicolored stacks of shoeboxes and paying particular attention the many labeled Jeffrey Campbell. The search for inspiration wasn’t difficult, and soon I knew ex
